Dibrugarh:
Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) successfully executed a comprehensive Level 3 mock drill on Thursday, designed to enhance emergency preparedness and response capabilities for major gas leak incidents in the region. The large-scale exercise was conducted near the SV-01 Sectionalising Valve Station along the Lakwa-Lepetkata underground pipeline at Jokai in Dibrugarh, simulating a significant gas leak scenario that tested the coordinated response of multiple agencies and organisations. The drill brought together a formidable coalition of stakeholders, including the district administration, police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and key mutual aid partners such as Oil India Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation, Assam Gas Company Ltd, Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd, Duliajan Numaligarh Pipeline Ltd, Hindustan Oil Exploration Company, North Eastern Electric Power Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, and the Assam Fire & Emergency Services.During the simulation, BCPL’s specialised response teams demonstrated their capabilities by conducting search and rescue operations, coordinating systematic evacuations, and providing immediate medical assistance to simulated casualties. The exercise particularly focused on evaluating critical communication and coordination systems between BCPL and its various partner organisations.“The drill allowed us to test our emergency protocols in real-time conditions and identify areas where we can further strengthen our response mechanisms. Such comprehensive training ensures that all stakeholders are well-prepared to work together seamlessly during actual emergencies,” a BCPL official said.
