RPF rescues woman after suicide bid at Kishanganj station
Patna: A 24-year-old woman attempted suicide at Kishanganj railway station on Thursday following a family dispute, triggering panic among passengers. However, the situation was brought under control after Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel acted swiftly and saved her.
The incident took place near the foot overbridge in the railway colony area. The woman was identified as Jyoti Kumari, wife of Som Nath, a resident of Dharamganj under Sadar police station area.
According to RPF officials, she tied her dupatta to an iron structure of the foot overbridge, placed it around her neck and jumped in an attempt to end her life. Alert RPF personnel intervened and rescued her, shifting her to a safe location. She was in a critical condition during the rescue. Her five-year-old daughter, who was accompanying her, was left visibly shaken by the incident.
Local police reached the spot soon after and spent nearly an hour counselling the woman, after which she gradually calmed down. Preliminary inquiry suggested that she had been under stress due to a prolonged dispute with her husband and family.
RPF in-charge H K Sharma said the woman’s life was saved due to the prompt response of on-duty personnel. Her family members were informed, and after they arrived at the station, she was taken home following due formalities.
Passengers and locals present at the station appreciated the timely intervention of the RPF, noting that a major tragedy was averted. Police have urged the public to report cases of mental distress promptly.
