School to hold library fest
MANGALORE: The Yenepoya School, keeping in line with the United Nations declaring year 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity is organising a library fest and inter-school biodiversity quiz competition. While the two-day library fest 2010 will be held at the school, Jeppinamogaru near here from November 18, second round of the quiz will be held on November 12 and finals at Summer Sands beach, Ullal on November 20. C K Manjunath, principal told reporters here on Wednesday that theinter-school biodiversity quiz competition is open for all high school students.Four best students from each school will be participating in the second round tobe held at The Yenepoya School, and the best six teams from this round will takepart in the grand finals. Various science faculty have contributed theirintellectual might to develop this quiz contest, he said.NSomeshwar, who hosts a popular Kannada quiz programme 'That Antha Heli' will bethe quizmaster for the finals, which will have 10 rounds. Two of the rounds inthe final will be dedicated exclusively to the topic of bio-diversity and therest will deal with various science related topics, he said. Various culturalprogrammes are also planned for November 20 to make the whole programme morecolourful, Manjunath explained.
The Yenepoya School in association with Prism Books Private Ltd, Bangalore will host the two-day Library Fest at the School from November 18. K Vaman, chief editor of quarterly magazine 'Atma Shakti' will inaugurate the fest. Apart from providing useful information on libraries, the book exhibition will have more than 2,000 books on display and will be open for all school students and to the general public, Manjunath added.WORKSHOP ON BIO-DIVERSITYThe School, incoordination with the Pilikula Regional Science Centre Society (PRSCS),Mangalore on Tuesday conducted a one-day workshop on biodiversity for highschool science teachers. Dayavathi, BEO, Mangalore city range who inauguratedthe workshop said the role of teachers is most important in cultivating theyoung minds in conserving bio-diversity.
