Water supply to Tripunithura restored
Kochi: KWA completed the repair works on its main pipeline at Karingachira on Friday night, and the water supply to Tripunithura municipality, which was disrupted due to the repair, was restored. As per the original schedule, KWA was planning to complete the repair work by Sunday. However, the agency was able to complete it within 24 hours and resume supply. "There was a leak in the main pipeline, which takes water from the pumphouse at Karingachira to Tripunithura town. Though we learned about the leak almost a fortnight ago, we couldn't locate the exact point of the leak. The pipeline passes under the railway lines in the area, which made identifying the exact location very difficult. However, we identified the specific area of the leak and used a clamp to plug the leak. If it was a major leak, the work would have been prolonged," officials with KWA said. At the same time, KWA is planning to shut down its water treatment plant at Aluva for annual maintenance on May 13. The water supply to Kochi corporation limits, Aluva, Kalamassery, Eloor and Thrikkakara municipalities, and Edathala, Keezhmadu, Choornikkara, Cheranellore, Mulavukad, Elamkunnappuzha and Njarackal panchayats will be disrupted, KWA officials informed.
