CSJM University, KMC corporators launch initiative to encourage fuel conservation
Kanpur: Responding to the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save fuel and promote the use of public transport, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University and several corporators of Kanpur Municipal Corporation on Monday launched initiatives to encourage fuel conservation and environment protection.
Vice-chancellor Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak, through an office memorandum, urged all teachers, officers and employees of the university to maximize fuel conservation and promote the use of public transport.
In response to the Prime Minister’s appeal, the university administration also issued several guidelines to promote energy conservation and responsible transportation systems on the campus.
According to the order, the Registrar, Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations and other university officials would now use e-cars or electric vehicles for official work within the campus. Stress has also been laid on the use of public transport and Metro services for attending meetings and programmes within Kanpur city.
The university administration further directed that, as far as possible, meetings should be conducted online to minimize unnecessary fuel consumption. Fuel-operated university vehicles would be used only for official duties outside the city and for essential works.
The university administration expressed hope that the initiative would not only help in saving fuel but also contribute towards environmental conservation and reduction in carbon emissions. The vice-chancellor appealed to all teachers, officers and employees to ensure immediate compliance with the directives.
Meanwhile, some corporators, including BJP group leader in the House Naveen Pandit, used bicycles to move around their wards and identify civic problems while spreading awareness about fuel conservation and the use of eco-friendly transport.
