Dharwad: Rangayana Dharwad director Zakir Nadaf on Friday said plans are under way to launch a statewide college theatre festival, with competitions proposed at the district, divisional and state levels. Speaking to reporters, he said colleges would soon be contacted about the initiative. Nadaf stressed the importance of introducing theatre and stagecraft to students during their college years so that they remain connected with the art form even after completing their education. He also announced plans to organise a multilingual theatre festival titled Ranga Dhwani, aimed at encouraging audiences to watch plays in different languages. Theatre traditions in languages such as Malayalam and Marathi, he said, offer distinct artistic styles and cultural perspectives. "Our goal is to create an atmosphere where people come to theatres with the same enthusiasm as they do for cinema," Nadaf said. Highlighting financial constraints, he said grants were essential for organising theatre activities and implementing projects. Efforts would be made to seek govt support, he added. Rangayana administrative officer Shashikala V Huded was present.
