CM cuts convoy size, says will switch to EV

Panaji: CM Pramod Sawant on Thursday reduced the size of his convoy, after PM Modi’s appeal for austerity measures aimed at saving fuel. The move comes a day after the PM and several Union ministers downsized their own motorcades.

Sawant said he plans to switch to an EV. “I will use an EV soon. I will be purchasing one shortly,” he told reporters on Thursday. He arrived at an event in his car accompanied by a single SUV with security personnel.

“When the PM has appealed, and when he has reduced his own convoy, it is my responsibility too to reduce my convoy. I have kept only one vehicle with me. I appeal to others as well to take similar steps so that we can save fuel,” Sawant said.

In Mumbai, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis rode a police bike from his official residence to the assembly with IT minister Ashish Shelar riding pillion. His security followed on four other bikes.
