Coimbatore: The Race Course police on Friday arrested two guest workers from Assam for possession of heroin.
A police officer identified the arrested duo as D Montu, 25, of Lakhimpur district in Assam, and M Hari Medok, 27, of Dhemaji district in Assam.
He said the duo were residing near a private hospital at Siddhapudur and working as daily wage labourers in the city.
"Acting on specific intelligence about drug use, we conducted a search near New Siddhapudur on Friday and found the two men behaving in a suspicious manner. During the search, we found they were in possession of 30mg of heroin," the officer said.
The Race Course police registered a case under Section 8(c) read with sections 22(a) and 29(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and arrested the duo, who were later produced before judicial magistrate III and remanded in judicial custody.
Police have intensified vigil against the movement of synthetic drugs and ganja in the city, with a special focus on individuals arriving from other states.
