Man killed after land access dispute turns violent in Namakkal
Namakkal: A 65-year-old man died after a land-access dispute turned violent near Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, on Saturday.Police identified the deceased as Sridhar, from Velampalayam in Irayamangalam. He owned five acres of land while his neighbour Velusamy owned 2.5 acres. The two families had an ongoing dispute over access to their fields and over whether a coconut grove stood on one person's land or the other. The matter was already in court."An argument on Saturday escalated into a clash, during which Kesavaraj attacked Sridhar with a sickle, causing severe cut injuries to his hands and legs," said a police officer from Molasi station. He added that Sridhar collapsed due to heavy bleeding.Neighbours first took him to Molasi Primary Health Centre, then to a private hospital in Tiruchengode. He was later being shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore for advanced treatment but died on the way.His body was sent to Namakkal Government Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem.A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
