Idol unearthed in Tiruchengode town
NAMAKKAL: A three-foot-tall clay idol of Amman was unearthed in Tiruchengode town in Namakkal district on Monday. The idol was found while workers were excavating land to renovate the Periya Ongaliamman Temple."The decades-old idol was found to be partially damaged," said V Balusamy, one of the temple administrators. The temple underwent a renovation in 1960. "The idol may have been buried under the sanctum sanctorum after it was damaged," he said.The temple administrators informed HR&CE officials about the discovery. Locals conducted a special puja for the idol.
