Chennai: A 70-year-old woman suffered injuries on her ear, after an unidentified man who entered her house at Perumpedu near Ponneri late on Friday, cut her earlobes, and fled with her earrings while she was asleep. The stolen earrings were imitation jewellery and not original gold, said police.
The victim, Lakshmi, who lives alone after the death of her husband Gurusamy five years ago, was sleeping inside her house with the door left open for ventilation when the incident occurred around midnight.
After she raised an alarm, neighbours and relatives living nearby rushed to the house and found her bleeding from both ears. She was admitted to the Ponneri Govt Hospital for treatment. Police have formed special teams to identify and arrest the suspect.
