NDA, BJP, UDF lead as counting progresses across four states
Votes are being counted across four state assemblies, with the NDA, BJP, and UDF holding commanding positions in their respective states at this stage. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA has won 28 seats and is leading in 69 more, giving it a tally of 97. Congress and its allies are leading in 22 seats with no wins declared yet. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7 in Assam. In West Bengal, where the majority mark is 148 in a 294-seat assembly, BJP has won 11 seats and is leading in 168, putting its tally at 179, which crosses the majority threshold if those leads hold. TMC has won 2 and is leading in 104, for a tally of 106. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 8 in West Bengal. In Puducherry, NDA has won 13 seats and is leading in 5 more, giving it a tally of 18 in the 30-seat assembly where 16 are needed for a majority, and its tally already crosses that mark. SPA has a tally of 5, with 2 wins and 3 leads. In Kerala, where 71 seats are needed for a majority in the 140-seat house, UDF has won 68 and is leading in 19 more for a tally of 87, crossing the majority mark if those leads hold. LDF has won 30 and is leading in 6, for a tally of 36. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 17 in Kerala.
