Rewari: With polling for the Rewari municipal council and Dharuhera municipal committee scheduled for Sunday, the district administration and police have rolled out an extensive security and logistical operation to ensure peaceful, transparent and incident-free elections. Polling parties carrying Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), VVPAT units and election material were dispatched on Saturday under tight security arrangements from the Government Girls College campus in Rewari.
District election officer and deputy commissioner Abhishek Meena reviewed arrangements at the dispatch centres and inspected the strong room facilities.
Voting will take place on May 10 from 8 am to 6 pm, while repolling, if required, will be conducted on May 12. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 13.
"The district administration is maintaining strict vigil to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. Any violation of the Model Code of Conduct or attempt to disturb law and order will invite immediate action," the DC said. He added that special monitoring mechanisms had been put in place to identify suspicious or fake voters to prevent unauthorised voting on polling day.
Superintendent of Police Hemendra Kumar Meena said elaborate security arrangements had been made considering the sensitivity of the urban local body elections and Panchayati Raj bypolls. Around four Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), nearly 1,100 police personnel and Home Guard jawans have been deployed across the district to maintain law and order during polling.
According to the police administration, voting for the Rewari Municipal Council will be conducted at 99 polling booths spread across 35 locations, while Dharuhera Municipal Committee elections will take place at 27 booths across 14 locations. In addition, Panchayati Raj bypolls will be held at seven booths situated at four locations.
Police officials identified 47 vulnerable and critical polling booths located at 20 locations in Rewari and Dharuhera.
