Chandigarh: The Haryana Police recorded a 38% decline in crimes against women in 2025. The reduction in these cases is attributed to a multi-layered strategy aimed at ensuring women's safety at home, in the workplace, during travel and in legal proceedings.
According to official data, cases of crimes against women fell from 13,945 in 2024 to 8,723 in 2025.
Highlighting the achievement, Ajay Singhal, the director general of police, Haryana, said women's empowerment and equality could only be realised when safety and security were guaranteed.
"The talk of women's empowerment, equality and dignity must be preceded by one thing — safety and security. We in the police are directly responsible for making women's empowerment possible," said Singhal.
Police data revealed a consistent fall in major crimes against women over the last five years. Rape cases declined from 1,716 in 2021 to 1,033 in 2025, while kidnapping and abduction cases dropped from 2,958 to 1,249 during the same period. Family cruelty cases also reduced from 5,755 to 4,562.
Officials said the decline was registered despite an increase in the state's women population from 139.2 lakh to 146.3 lakh.
The overall case resolution rate remained close to 98%.
To strengthen support systems, the Haryana Police established 33 Women Police Stations and 365 Women Help Desks across the state. One Stop Centres also provide counselling and legal support to survivors of domestic violence, dowry harassment and other crimes.
The state has additionally enhanced workplace and travel safety through Internal Complaints Committees, the Working Women Safety Portal and the Durga Shakti mobile application linked with Haryana 112 emergency services. More than 93,999 working women are currently registered on the portal.
A dedicated Durga Shakti Rapid Action Force, comprising 24 companies and 50 patrol vehicles, conducts regular patrolling across public places and transport routes to improve women's safety and confidence, said the DGP.
