Faridkot MC prez joins AAP, Moga ex-mayor enters Cong

Bathinda: Less than two weeks before the May 26 civic body elections in Punjab, former Faridkot municipal council president Narinderpal Singh Ninda shifted from Congress to AAP on Thursday.Ninda, accompanied by several district-level functionaries, was welcomed into the party fold by AAP Faridkot MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon. He is expected to run as the party's candidate in the upcoming council elections. The deadline for filing nomination papers for the 105 municipal bodies, including eight municipal corporations, is May 16. Four of these corporations are in the Malwa region. In another shift, former Moga mayor Baljit Singh Chani left AAP to join Congress. He was welcomed by Malvika Sood, sister of actor Sonu Sood. Chani's move comes after he resigned as mayor following his suspension from AAP on Nov 27, 2025, for alleged misconduct. MSID:: 131090393 413 |
