Man arrested for stabbing friend

Bhubaneswar: Info Valley police here on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his friend after being enraged by offensive remarks the latter reportedly made about his wife in front of others. The injured victim, Ranjan Kumar Swain (29), is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The accused has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra (39).Swain told police that he, Mohapatra, and a few others had organised a feast near a pond in the Madanpur area on the city’s outskirts on Monday. While Mohapatra was busy cooking, his phone rang. “His phone was near us. When I saw his wife’s name on the screen and mentioned it, he became angry and attacked me with a knife,” Swain alleged.Swain was initially rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar. “Though he is stable and out of danger, he later shifted himself to a private hospital,” a police officer said.During interrogation, Mohapatra claimed that Swain had made inappropriate remarks about his wife in front of others after speaking with her over the phone, which provoked the assault.
