Bhopal: The state Mahila Congress on Saturday protested the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel here in the capital. It was a unique protest held at the Nanke Petrol Pump in the New Market area where state Mahila Congress workers arrived pushing scooters and expressed their wrath against the govt’s policies through the Dhakka Maar Andolan. The oil companies on Friday announced an increase of Rs 3 on petrol and diesel prices.Led by State Mahila Congress president Reena Borasi, the women agitators said that inflation has broken the back of the common man. “The skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel have made life difficult for the middle class, women, working professionals, and small businesses,” Reena Borasi said.During the protest, Mahila Congress workers pushed scooters to convey the message that due to the govt’s policies, even driving a two-wheeler is becoming increasingly difficult for the common man. Upon reaching the petrol pump, the workers raised slogans against the Union and state govts.Reena Borasi further said, “The BJP had shown the public dreams of ‘achhe din’, but today the situation is such that people are struggling to fill petrol. Instead of using vehicles, they are forced to push them. If inflation continues to rise at this rate, people will again be forced to use bullock carts and walk long distances.
The BJP govt is continuously plundering the people.”Referring to the erstwhile UPA regime under former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Mahila Congress chief Reena Borasi said that even during the global economic recession of 2008, the UPA govt had handled the country’s economy firmly, but the current Narendra Modi govt has made empty promises and completely failed to control inflation. The state Mahila Congress demanded that immediate relief be provided in petrol and diesel prices and that the govt take concrete steps to control spiralling inflation.
