Judiciary needs to function like 24x7 hospitalsto address common man’s pain, aspirations: CJI
Jabalpur: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Saturday said it was time for the judiciary to address the pain and aspirations of the common man through an immediate relief-giving mechanism and stressed the need for the judicial system to function like hospitals that work round-the-clock.
The CJI was speaking at a seminar organised by the MP high court at Jabalpur’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Culture & Information Centre.
He said that use of technology is not a matter of choice or a luxury, but a constitutional instrument to achieve its mandate for easy and prompt justice available to people.
The CJI called for deepening technology and artificial intelligence (AI)-based judicial architecture to expedite justice delivery.
“Indian judiciary is committed to ensuring optimum utilisation of not only technological advancements that have been going on and which are integral part of our system since 1990, but also of latest AI designs and how we can use them for the benefit of the common man,” he said.
“We should think of deepening technology and AI-based judicial architecture. Technology is the only effective answer to wasting judicial time,” CJI Kant said.
He praised the MP high court and the state govt for creating a digital platform, which will ensure timely release of prisoners, urgent hearing of cases and digitalisation of court orders. He hoped that the work done by the MP high court would be emulated across the country for greater use of technology in the judicial system.
Chief minister Mohan Yadav in his address on the occasion referred to Raja Vikramaditya’s justice dispensation system and said his commitment to justice inspires people even now. He said innovations and use of technology play a crucial role in making the judicial system simple and transparent. The use of technology will help the judicial system get rid of heap of files, he said.
