Infant dies after aunt falls on him during fight with mom; woman arrested

Agra: A six-month-old infant died after his maternal aunt allegedly fell on him during a scuffle over a domestic dispute in Krishna Nagar area under Firozabad North police station in Firozabad district, leading to her arrest on Friday.Police said the incident took place late Wednesday night when Tanveer’s parents Kanhaiya Kumar, an e-rickshaw driver, and Sanjana, had gone to a local fair and left him under the care of Sanjana’s twin sister, Vandana Kumari, 23, who was also living with the family.Sanjana told police that when they returned home around midnight, they found Tanveer crying and reprimanded Vandana for not feeding him milk, leading to an argument between them. The verbal spat turned ugly after Sanjana allegedly slapped Vandana, causing her to lose her balance and fall onto the bed where the infant was lying.Tanveer was taken to the district hospital’s trauma centre, where doctors declared him dead. Postmortem revealed that the infant had suffered a fracture to the back of his skull, which was identified as the primary cause of death.Based on Sanjana’s complaint, a case was registered under BNS section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). “Vandana was arrested and produced before the competent court. Further legal proceedings are underway,” SP (city) Ravi Shanker Prasad said.
