Chandy Oommen of the Indian National Congress on Monday retained the Puthuppally seat with a massive margin of 52,907 votes, reaffirming his hold over the family stronghold.
The son of former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy, Chandy secured 84,031 votes, comfortably defeating K M Radhakrishnan of the CPI(M), who polled 31,124 votes, according to Election Commission data.
Polling for the Kerala Assembly elections was held on April 9, with the Puthuppally contest drawing significant public attention. Chandy’s campaign stood out for its environmentally conscious approach, as he adopted a green protocol by avoiding flex boards and plastic banners. Instead, he relied on a bicycle-based door-to-door outreach, which resonated widely with voters and added a distinctive edge to his campaign.
The emphatic victory further strengthens Chandy’s political standing in the state and continues the legacy of his father in the constituency.
