NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four states, counting is well underway and early leads are shaping up sharply. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat assembly, NDA has a tally of 97, having won 28 and leading in 69 more, crossing the majority mark if these leads hold. Congress-led opposition has a tally of 22, all in leads, while candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively account for a tally of 7. In Tamil Nadu, the majority mark stands at 118 in a 234-seat house. SPA holds a tally of 60, with 7 won and 53 leading. NDA is trailing with a tally of 55, all in leads. Candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively lead in a tally of 115, still 3 seats short of the majority mark. West Bengal, the largest contest with 294 seats and a majority mark of 148, sees BJP leading with a tally of 179, having won 11 and leading in 168, crossing the majority threshold if those leads hold. TMC trails with a tally of 106, while candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively account for a tally of 8. In Puducherry, where 16 seats decide the majority in a 30-seat assembly, NDA has a tally of 18, with 13 already won and leading in 5 more, crossing the majority mark. SPA has a tally of 5, while candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7.
