NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four states going to the polls, counting is well underway in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, with leads shifting as rounds come in. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA holds a tally of 97, having won 28 and leading in 69 more, comfortably crossing the majority mark on current trends. Congress and its allies are at a tally of 22, all in leads, while independent and smaller party candidates cumulatively account for a tally of 7. In Tamil Nadu, the majority mark stands at 118 in the 234-seat assembly. SPA has a tally of 60, with 7 won and 53 leading, while NDA trails with a tally of 55. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively lead in Tamil Nadu with a tally of 115, still 3 seats short of the majority mark if those leads hold. West Bengal, with its 294-seat house requiring 148 for a majority, sees BJP leading in enough seats to cross that mark, holding a tally of 179 across 11 won and 168 leading. TMC trails with a tally of 106, comprising 2 won and 104 leading. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 8 in West Bengal. In Puducherry, where 16 seats decide the majority in the 30-seat house, NDA has a tally of 18 with 13 seats already won and 5 leads, crossing the majority mark on current numbers. SPA has a tally of 5, while independent and smaller party candidates cumulatively account for a tally of 7 in the union territory.
