NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four state assemblies, counting is producing clear frontrunners in most contests. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA has won 28 seats and is leading in 69 more, putting its tally at 97, well past the majority mark if those leads hold. Congress and its allies are leading in 22 seats with no wins declared yet, giving them a tally of 22. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7 in Assam. In Tamil Nadu, where the majority mark stands at 118 in a 234-seat assembly, SPA has won 7 seats and is leading in 53, for a tally of 60. NDA is leading in 55 seats with no wins declared, giving it a tally of 55. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 115 in Tamil Nadu, just 3 short of the majority mark, with 10 wins declared and leads in 105 seats. West Bengal, the largest of the four with 294 seats and a majority mark of 148, sees BJP leading with 11 wins and leads in 168 more, for a tally of 179, crossing the majority threshold in leads. TMC has won 2 seats and is leading in 104, giving it a tally of 106. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 8 in West Bengal. In Puducherry, where just 16 seats are needed for a majority in the 30-seat house, NDA has won 13 seats and is leading in 5 more, for a tally of 18, crossing the majority mark in combined count. SPA has won 2 seats and is leading in 3, giving it a tally of 5. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7 in Puducherry.
