NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four states going to the polls, counting is well underway in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, with leads shifting as rounds are declared. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat assembly, NDA holds a tally of 97, having won 28 and leading in 69 more, comfortably past the majority mark on current trends. Congress and its allies are trailing with a tally of 22, all leads and no wins declared yet. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for a tally of 7 in the state. In Tamil Nadu, where the majority mark stands at 118 in a 234-seat house, SPA holds a tally of 60, with 7 seats won and 53 leads, while NDA is trailing with a tally of 55. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively lead in enough seats to hold a tally of 115, just 3 short of the majority mark if those leads hold. In West Bengal, BJP is leading in enough seats to cross the 148-seat majority mark in the 294-seat assembly, holding a tally of 179 with 11 seats won and 168 leads. TMC is trailing with a tally of 106, comprising 2 wins and 104 leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for a tally of 8 in West Bengal. In Puducherry, NDA has crossed the majority mark of 16 in the 30-seat assembly on current tallies, with 13 seats already won and 5 leads, giving a tally of 18. SPA has a tally of 5, while candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7 in the union territory.
