NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four state assemblies, counting is well underway and early leads are shaping up sharply. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA has won 28 seats and is leading in 69 more, taking its tally to 97, which already crosses the majority mark if those leads hold. Congress and its allies are trailing with a tally of 22, all from leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for a tally of 7 in Assam. In Tamil Nadu, the 234-seat assembly requires 118 seats for a majority. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively lead with a tally of 115, having won 10 and leading in 105, leaving them just 3 short of the majority mark at this stage. SPA is trailing with a tally of 60, while NDA has a tally of 55, all from leads. West Bengal, the largest of the four assemblies with 294 seats and a majority mark of 148, sees BJP leading with a tally of 179, having won 11 and leading in 168, which crosses the majority mark if those leads hold. TMC is trailing with a tally of 106, comprising 2 won and 104 leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 8 in the state. In Puducherry, where only 16 seats are needed for a majority in the 30-seat assembly, NDA has won 13 and is leading in 5 more, giving it a tally of 18 that crosses the majority mark if those leads hold. SPA has a tally of 5, with 2 won and 3 leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7 in Puducherry.
