Vaikom Election Result 2026: K BiniMon Wins Narrowly for Congress

K BiniMon secures a close victory in Vaikom, edging past CPI’s P. Pradeep by a slim margin of 1,360 votes in one of the tightest contests in the region.Vaikom Assembly constituency, numbered 95, is a Scheduled Caste (SC)-reserved seat in Kottayam district of Kerala, falling under the Kottayam parliamentary constituency. Established in 1957 and redefined in the 2008 delimitation, it covers Vaikom Municipality along with panchayats like Chempu, Kallara, Maravanthuruthu, T.V. Puram, Thalayazham, Thalayolaparambu, Udayanapuram, Vechoor, and Velloor in Vaikom taluk, serving around 163,000 electors. This general rural seat blends paddy-rubber farming, backwater communities, historic Vaikom Satyagraha legacy, and SC populations with Syrian Christian influences near the Vembanad Lake fringes. CPI of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) has dominated since 2001, with C.K. Asha as the current MLA and Women & Child Development Minister since 2016. In 2021, she won convincingly with 48,260 votes (37.85per cent), defeating UDF's A. Saneeshkumar (19,138 votes) by 29,122 votes (22.83per cent) at 82.01per cent turnout—her second term after 2016's 34,681-vote margin over INC. CPI's labor-SC base consistently outpaces UDF and BJP's 9-10per cent share. Key issues include agricultural distress from floods-droughts, poor rural roads and waterlogging, SC welfare like housing-jobs, youth migration despite remittances, inadequate healthcare-schools, backwater conservation amid encroachment, and demands for irrigation upgrades and festival infrastructure. These community concerns reinforce LDF's stronghold in this culturally rich, agrarian belt.
