Bhupen Kumar Borah of the BJP emerged victorious in the election, securing a total of 73050 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Narayan Bhuyan by a decisive margin of 8236 votes.
Assam’s Bihpuria constituency is set for a contest between BJP’s Bhupen Kumar Borah and Congress nominee Narayan Bhuyan. According to various exit polls, the BJP-led alliance is expected to win a comfortable majority, paving the way for Himanta Biswa Sarma’s return as chief minister.
The state went to assembly polls on April 9 for all 126 constituencies, recording a turnout of over 85%. High voter participation was seen not only in rural belts but also in urban centres, reflecting widespread civic engagement.
Bihpuria is one of the 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam. It is a general category seat located in Lakhimpur district and is among the nine Assembly segments under the Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency.
In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,53,050 registered voters, with 1,21,526 valid votes cast. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan won the seat with 58,979 votes.
Congress (INC) candidate Bhupen Kumar Borah finished second with 48,801 votes, losing by a margin of 10,178 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, Bihpuria had 1,31,665 electors, with 1,09,694 valid votes recorded. BJP candidate Debananda Hazarika won the seat with 66,563 votes, defeating INC candidate Bhupen Kumar Borah, who secured 40,376 votes.
