Suvendu govt forms panels to probe corruption, torture of women during Mamata's tenure

NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari Monday said his government has approved the formation of two panels under retired high court judges to probe institutional corruption and torture of women during Mamata Banerjee's tenure.Corruption and women’s safety were among the major poll planks of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the West Bengal assembly elections as the party pin-pointedly highlighted the RG Kar rape case and Sandeshkhali violence while launching a full-frontal attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government.The CM said the panel constituted to probe into allegations of financial irregularities and 'cut money' practices will be headed by retired Justice Biswajit Basu. Senior IPS officer Jayaraman is the member-secretary of the panel.The other panel to investigate incidents of atrocities against women and girl child will be headed by retired Judge Samapti Chatterjee, with senior IPS officer Damayanti Sen as the member secretary."The committees are scheduled to begin functioning on June 1," he said.
