NEW DELHI: Rupjyoti Kurmi of the BJP emerged victorious in the election, securing a total of 79632 votes. He defeated Raijor Dal candidate Gyanashree Bora by a decisive margin of 26840 votes.
BJP's Rupjyoti Kurmi was in contest with Rajjor Dal's Gyanashree Bora (in alliance with Congress) for the constituency of Mariani in the 2026 assembly elections.
There were a total of 164989 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Mariani Assembly constituency, of whom 80156 were male, 84832 female and 1 belonged to the third gender.
Assam voted across all 126 seats on April 9, recording a turnout of over 85%, one of the highest in recent years.
Notably, the surge in voting was seen not just in rural areas but also across urban centres, pointing to broad-based and enthusiastic voter participation across the state.
Mariani Assembly constituency is a general (unreserved) seat located in Jorhat district of Assam. Following the 2023 delimitation exercise, the constituency continues to be part of the Jorhat Parliamentary constituency.
In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,23,568 registered voters, with 95,838 valid votes cast.
Congress candidate Rupjyoti Kurmi won the seat with 47,308 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ramani Tanti finished second with 44,862 votes, losing by a margin of 2,446 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, Mariani had 1,06,715 electors, with 90,548 valid votes recorded.
Congress candidate Rupjyoti Kurmi won the seat with 36,701 votes, defeating Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Alok Kumar Ghosh, who secured 34,908 votes. The victory margin was 1,793 votes.
According to the final electoral roll released on February 10, 2026, the constituency has 1,64,989 registered voters, up from around 1,22,128 voters in 2021.
