Mahisadal election results 2026: BJP’s Subhas Chandra Panja defeats TMC’s Tilak Kumar Chakraborty in West Bengal

In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election for Mahisadal (208), Subhas Chandra Panja of the Bharatiya Janata Party secured victory with 1,21,584 votes, defeating All India Trinamool Congress candidate Tilak Kumar Chakraborty, who polled 95,346 votes. The BJP won by a margin of 26,238 votes in the constituency. CPI(M)’s Paritosh Pattanayak finished third with 11,490 votes, while other parties and independents remained far behind. NOTA recorded 843 votes.Mahisadal (constituency no. 208) is located in Purba Medinipur district and falls under the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency straddles the Mahisadal and Tamluk community development blocks. It is a predominantly rural seat, with agriculture and fishing as primary livelihoods. The area borders the Haldia industrial belt, and some sections of the constituency have a connection to the petrochemical and port economy of the region.In 2021, TMC's Tilak Kumar Chakraborty won by a narrow margin of just 2,386 votes over BJP's Biswanath Banerjee, making it one of the closer contests in Purba Medinipur. In 2016, the TMC also held the seat. The tight 2021 margin makes Mahisadal a competitive constituency for 2026. Tilak Kumar Chakraborty has been renominated and will defend his seat against BJP's Subhash Panja and Congress's Kajal Nayek Das. Given the slim victory in 2021, the BJP will be confident of mounting a serious challenge, whilst the TMC needs to consolidate its base in a constituency where the BJP has demonstrated competitive strength. Agricultural support and rural employment are key electoral issues.
