Latha. T of Communist Party of India (Marxist) won the Kilvelur constituency with a margin of 2278 votes. She garnered 56108 votes, while Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate Senthil Pandian. P came second with 53830 votes.
Kilvelur is a Reserved (SC) constituency in Nagapattinam district. It is known as a stronghold for the CPI(M) and DMK. In the 2021 Assembly elections, CPI(M)’s Nagaimaali V. P. won the seat with 67,988 votes, defeating PMK’s S.
Vadivel Ravanan, who secured 51,003 votes. The margin of victory was 16,985 votes. In the 2016 Assembly elections, DMK’s U. Mathivanan won the seat with 61,999 votes, defeating AIADMK’s N. Meena, who received 51,829 votes. The margin of victory was 10,170 votes. In the 2011 Assembly elections, CPI(M)’s Nagaimaali V. P. won the seat with 59,402 votes, defeating DMK’s U.
