Erode (East) election results 2026: TVK candidate M Vijay Balaji registers win against Congress' Gopinath Palaniyappan

Erode (East) Assembly constituency is located in Erode district of Tamil Nadu and forms part of the Erode Lok Sabha constituency. In 2026 assembly elections, M Vijay Balaki of TVK secured 69,747 votes beating INC fielded Gopinath Palaniyappan by 23,966 votes.The seat represents an important urban segment of the district and has witnessed contests involving the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and regional parties such as the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), reflecting the shifting alliance dynamics in the region.In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,12,746 electors, with 1,48,018 valid votes polled. AIADMK candidate K S Thennarasu secured victory with 64,879 votes, defeating DMK candidate V C Chandhirakumar, who received 57,085 votes. The margin of victory stood at 7,794 votes, indicating a relatively close contest between the two major Dravidian parties.Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, Erode (East) had 1,75,395 electors, with 1,36,071 valid votes recorded. Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) candidate V C Chandhirakumar won the seat with 69,166 votes, defeating DMK candidate S Muthusamy, who secured 58,522 votes. The winning margin of 10,644 votes reflected the influence of regional parties during that election cycle.
