Vijayawada: A doctor from Vijayawada has been booked by city police on charges of rape, cheating, criminal intimidation and caste-based abuse following a complaint lodged by a 28-year-old staff nurse.
According to police, the woman alleged that she became acquainted with the doctor while working at a private hospital in 2018. The doctor allegedly told her that he was unmarried and proposed marriage despite being aware of her caste background.
In her complaint, the woman stated that the doctor developed a physical relationship with her in 2022 by repeatedly promising to marry her. She alleged that he sexually exploited her multiple times and also forced her to terminate two pregnancies by giving her tablets.
The complainant further stated that the two later began living together in a rented house in Vijayawada. She alleged that on April 2, 2024, the doctor married her secretly while instructing her not to disclose the marriage to anyone.
Police said the woman later discovered that the doctor was already married and had a daughter. She is currently three months pregnant. When she questioned him about concealing his marriage, the doctor allegedly abused her using caste-related remarks.
The woman also alleged that the doctor's mother and wife threatened her and used caste-based slurs when she informed them about the relationship. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Investigation is underway.
