2 cops held for colluding with gang to rob man of Rs 10 lakh in Chittoor
Vijayawada: Two policemen from Chittoor district were arrested for allegedly joining hands with a gang of thieves and robbing a man of Rs 10 lakh. The case, which surfaced in Gangadhara Nellore (GD Nellore), has raised serious questions about misconduct within the police force. The accused include traffic ASI Lokanatham and AR head constable Ravichandran, both attached to the Chittoor police department. Investigators revealed that the two policemen allegedly worked in coordination with a robbery gang and carefully planned the crime before targeting the victim. The gang trapped the victim using a pre-planned strategy, and after threatening him, forcibly took away Rs 10 lakh in cash. Initially, the victim remained silent out of fear. However, later he approached higher police authorities and lodged a complaint, following which involvement of the two policemen came to light, triggering an internal inquiry. The case has now become a major topic of discussion in Chittoor district, with several theories emerging over the motive behind the crime. Investigators are probing whether the accused were involved in fraudulent dealings linked to a 'coconut business' or if the crime was connected to an alleged counterfeit currency racket. Both accused cops have been remanded in custody by a local court. Further investigation is on.
