Giant crocodile rescued near Srirangam

Trichy: A giant crocodile was rescued from Murungapettai near Srirangam on Tuesday after residents spotted it resting near a coconut grove. The reptile was later safely released into a water body near Kallanai. Alerted by locals around midday, personnel from the district fire and rescue services, along with officials from the forest department, rushed to the spot. Equipped with safety gear, the team managed to capture the crocodile after an operation that lasted nearly an hour. Officials said recent rainfall could have led the animal to stray into human habitation in search of suitable water sources. The crocodile was transported and released into a water body near Kallanai.
