Trichy: Four people were injured after a passenger autorickshaw rammed into a parked container lorry near Srirangam in Trichy on Monday.
The injured were identified as K Ponnaian, 49, the autorickshaw driver from Reddymangudi in Lalgudi, and his passengers S Jagadeeswari, 54, S Matheswaran, 24, and M Nithra, 10, all from Tambaram in Chennai.
Police said Ponnaian was ferrying the passengers from Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple to No. 1 Tollgate when the accident occurred on Panjakarai Road. The autorickshaw collided with the rear of a container lorry parked along the roadside, leaving all four occupants seriously injured.
Residents nearby rushed to the spot, rescued the victims and took them to Srirangam Government Hospital for treatment.
Traffic North Police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and endangering life. The autorickshaw has been seized and further investigation is under way.
