Ranchi: Birsa Munda Airport will now get a play zone for children, a library, an affordable cafe and a handicrafts stall that will improve the overall experience of flyers.Union civil aviation minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu will inaugurate the new facilities on Wednesday. The move is being seen as a major step towards upgrading the airport at par with the services available at the airports in metro cities.Airport director Vinod Kumar said the amenities were created to keep passengers engaged during waiting hours and offer them a more relaxed airport experience.“Several new initiatives, including a play zone for children, a library named Flybrary, and a dedicated stall, Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region (AVSAR), to showcase Jharkhand’s renowned Sohrai and Khovar paintings and other handicrafts made by the local artisans of the region, will be inaugurated on Wednesday by the Union minister,” Kumar said.“Flyers would be able to purchase paintings from the stall and take with them a slice of Jharkhand’s rich heritage, thereby extending support to the artisans of the state,” he said.At the Flybrary corner, books across genres will be available free of cost for passengers during their wait. “Passengers can also borrow a book from the corner to read on flights; however, they will have to deposit the book at the library in their destination airport. The minister will also unveil a statue of tribal leader Birsa Munda during his visit on Wednesday,” Kumar said.
