Jharkhand CM directs cops to check poppy cultivation, organised crime

Ranchi: CM Hemant Soren on Tuesday issued a slew of instructions to prevent drug abuse, organised crime and illegal poppy cultivation during a high-level meeting with police and administrative officers.During the meeting held through video-conferencing, the CM said that cases related to missing women and children must be given top priority, adding that land mafia must not get protection from officers.Hemant said, “A drive must be conducted against the criminals associated with drug peddling with the aim to break their supply chains. Officers must identify the spots where sale and purchase of drugs is taking place and keep a close watch near the schools, colleges and other educational institutions in this regard.”He said that poppy cultivation must stop at all costs in the state, asking officers to take targeted action in Khunti, Chatra and Ranchi districts, adding that locals should also be educated on adverse impact of the illegal activity.The CM said that cases related to missing women and children must be focused upon with the aim to ensure their safe recovery. He also said that organised crime must be dealt with strictly, adding that the state govt was providing all facilities to police to prevent such activities.Asking them to improve coordination with the people, Hemant said that police officers should continuously interact with public at their offices and address their problems. He asked the officers to visit rural areas as well to meet people.Chief secretary Avinash Kumar, additional chief secretary Vandana Dadel and DGP Tadasha Mishra, among others, attended the meeting.
