Jamshedpur: The Steel City soaked in festive fervour on Thursday as Christmas celebrations filled the air with bliss, love, and togetherness. Following the midnight mass and the morning special prayers, festive enthusiasts indulged in the celebrations.
The day witnessed families visiting their relatives, inviting guests to their homes, and serving a delightful Christmas menu that included the popular plum cake, baked goods, savoury sweets, and namkeen. "It is the day for which preparations have been made for weeks. Not only do we serve food to our guests, but we also exchange gifts to make the occasion memorable," said Sanjiv Topno, a member of GEL Church, Sidhgora.

Along with the churches, the schools, clubs, and hotels are gripped by the Yuletide spirit. Wrapped with eye-catching LED strips, face lighting, and decorative crafts, the hotels and clubs have lightened up the ambience and the mood of the visitors. "From Christmas to New Year, the visitors to the hotels come with a festive mood. Keeping that in mind, hotels make the decorations," said hotelier Nirmal Singh.
The residential colonies of the Christ faithful in Sitaramdera, Sonari, Birsanagar, Golmuri, and Telco were abuzz with celebration activities.
Amidst the dance numbers of popular Hindi films and Nagpuri albums, the enthusiasts revelled in the Christmas glory.
Earlier, on Wednesday evening, scores of devotees visited their nearest churches to join the congregation, singing hymns and carols to welcome the birth of baby Jesus. The excitement erupted in joy at the stroke of midnight, with Christ followers queuing up to touch the feet of the newborn Jesus inside the church.
Adding glitter to the celebration, Santa distributed chocolates, cakes, balloons, and candles to children at the churches. "The next few days leading up to the New Year will witness Christmas gatherings, musical evenings, and related activities rejoicing the birth of Jesus," said Youth Christian Association (YCA) volunteer Dean D’Souza.
Embracing the spirit of love and laughter, Cancare social outfit volunteers spent quality time with cancer patients at a city hospital. Santa distributed fruits and articles of regular use to the 125 cancer patients.
