A Brisbane-based Muslim cleric has revealed how Pakistan treats its minorities. Imam Uzair Akbar of Holland Park Mosque in Brisbane said Australia has very high tolerance level towards minorities whereas Pakistan would have seen riots had someone from that section of the society perpetrated a Bondi-style terror attack. Imam Uzair Akbar said non-Muslim minorities would face collective violence in Pakistan, while praising Australia for protecting minority rights. Calling radical views harmful to Islam’s image, he urged people to confront extremism early. The speech has since raised questions about what is said behind closed doors, the responsibility of religious leaders, and the limits of tolerance in open societies.
