Dhanbad: Tension gripped Dhanbad Law College on Wednesday after two student groups clashed on campus, leaving around half a dozen students injured. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from an ongoing dispute over ragging, alleged indiscipline, and the circulation of a controversial video related to a party organised inside the college.According to sources, a group of students had hosted a party on the campus a few days ago where non-vegetarian food was cooked and objectionable dances were allegedly performed. Purported videos of the event later went viral, triggering protests from members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). On Wednesday, ABVP leaders, along with other members, reached the principal’s office to protest. During the demonstration, they confronted students associated with the All India Students’ Association (AISA), which led to a heated altercation that soon turned violent.Law College student and ABVP leader Anshu Tiwari alleged that AISA-linked students were repeatedly violating campus discipline and even ragging juniors. “When we protested against their activities, they turned aggressive and attacked us. At least four of our students were injured in the violence including me,” Tiwari claimed. However, the AISA group presented a different version of the events. Ravi Mishra, who denied having any official connection with student organisations, alleged that ABVP activists misbehaved with girl students and deliberately created chaos.
“ABVP workers, along with some outsiders, entered the college premises and indulged in vandalism. They were the ones who instigated the clash, not us,” Mishra asserted.Amid the escalating confrontation, chaos spread across the campus. Students pelted stationery items, and the principal’s office was reportedly vandalised. College authorities immediately informed the local police, and the injured students were rushed to the Sadar hospital for treatment.Reacting to the incident, Dhanbad Law College principal Dr Kamal Kishor confirmed that two groups of students clashed inside the college premises and damaged property. “We have taken serious note of the incident. An internal investigation will be conducted, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” he said. Dr Kishor further added that the clash took place after a complaint from a parent about ragging was brought to his attention, following which he had called a meeting of students.Police have been deployed on the campus to prevent any further unrest. The situation remained tense but under control by late evening.
