Former Indian Ambassador to the U.S., Arun Singh, highlighted renewed efforts by both India and the U.S. to stabilize ties and resume trade talks. He noted that Donald Trump’s recent public remarks reflect a shift from earlier pressure tactics, with both leaders reaffirming the strength of the U.S.-India partnership. Singh recalled that India was the first country the U.S. considered for a multi-sectoral free trade agreement, following PM Modi’s visit to the White House in February. He said five intensive negotiation rounds had taken place, including two at the ministerial level. According to Singh, the draft deal was balanced with mutual gains, and progress could quickly resume—provided the U.S. is ready to seek a fair, not one-sided, agreement.
