A disturbing case has emerged from Chatra, where police have taken into custody a woman accused of murdering her brother-in-law, Santosh Bhuiyan. Following a confrontation between the two, Santosh was found lifeless, reportedly struck by Ranju Devi with a brick. As the investigation unfolds, it appears there was an underlying relationship between them, leading to this tragic outcome.
Chatra: Two days after a 32-year-old man was found dead in his elder brother’s room at a village under Itkhori police station limits, the police on Saturday claimed to have cracked the case by arresting the sister-in-law of the victim on charges of murder.Santosh Bhuiyan of Pakaria Kala village was found dead in the room of his brother Tinku on May 7. The police on Saturday said Tinku’s wife Ranju Devi had hit Santosh with a brick to his head late on May 6 during an argument, leading to his death on the spot.Probe revealed that Santosh and Ranju had been in an affair for some time now. Ranju then fled to Siriya village from where she was arrested late on Friday.Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Amita Lakra said, “Following an FIR by Tinku on May 7, Chatra SP Animesh Naithany constituted a special team under the leadership of Itkhori police station officer-in-charge Abhishek Kumar Singh to solve the case.”Police investigation revealed that Ranju had started distancing her from Santosh. Suspecting that Ranju was involved with his another brother Vikas, he frequently argued with her. “A fresh argument broke out between them between the two on the day of the incident. During the altercation, Ranju allegedly attacked Santosh on the head with a brick in a fit of rage, killing him on the spot. After the incident, she allegedly fled to Siriya village along with her sister Lalita, from where she was arrested,” Lakra said. The blood-stained brick, which was used to strike the fatal blow to Santosh, was also recovered based on Ranju’s confession, the police said.
