Bokaro: A couple was mowed down by a truck near the Govind market on Thursday. The deceased, Sanjeev Kumar and his wife, were returning home after performing “tarpan” rituals when the accident took place. “The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Probe is on,” Navin Singh, the officer-in-charge of Balidih police station said.Locals blocked the Bokaro-Ramgarh highway after the incident. Thousands of heavy vehicles pass through the Bokaro industrial area daily. These include trucks carrying goods from several major industrial units. Given this high volume of heavy traffic, the risk of road accidents is constantly high.Area residents said the road in the BIADA area was built 23 years ago. At the time the road was constructed, most industries were closed, but now most of the factories are operational, resulting in increase in the number of vehicles and workers on the road.
