Sydney Sweeney is one of the top rising stars in Hollywood. After her breakthrough role in the HBO show Euphoria, where she starred alongside the likes of Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Hunter Schafer, Sweeney became the next silver screen sweetheart. With her versatile performances in rom-coms to horror thrillers, she is strengthening her portfolio with each project. And now she is back with another - Christy - a biopic on the boxing legend Christy Martin, and it's already buzzing about the upcoming award season.

Sydney Sweeney is unrecognizable in 'Christy'

A far cry from her glamorous red carpet looks, Sydney Sweeney was seen sporting training sweats and a short bob, a few months ago. While she was prepping for her role as the legendary boxer Christy Martin, the actor even gained 30 pounds, and looked almost unrecognizable. The hard work she put in her role, though, comes bearing fruit, as the movie got a “thunderous standing ovation” during its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5.“As you can tell, she’s such a special and incredible human being, and her story deserves to be told. Christy, you are absolutely incredible, and I’m so honored.”
Sweeney was brought to tears by all the love and admiration she and the rest of the cast received for the role.
But she did not forget to thank the legend, whose incredible life led to the making of this movie. Christy Martin, who is the first female boxer to be elected to the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame in 2016, along with her wife Lisa Holewyne, was also present for the premiere, and looked emotional standing beside the director of the movie, David Michôd.

Sydney Sweeney loved transforming into Christy Martin

It's not the first time an actor has had to gain or lose weight for a role. But for someone who has played mostly traditional female characters in her career, this was a huge change for Sydney Sweeney. She gained close to 30 pounds for the role of the boxing legend, who won numerous accolades during her time as a professional. And the Euphoria actress absolutely loved it.
“I absolutely loved it. I truly felt Christy’s power as I transformed. And I really enjoyed being able to train and work with incredible boxing coaches and weight trainers and nutritionists that helped me get to the place that I was for Christy.”Sweeney followed a calorie-dense diet and spent hours training every day for the role to look the part. And she absolutely nailed the look, as fans are completely floored by her transformation. No wonder the Oscar buzz is already buzzing! The movie is set to be released on November 7, 2025.Also Read: Not John Cena, Peacemaker creator James Gunn originally wanted another WWE star in the leading role
