Patna: Two people, including a 13-year-old boy, were injured in a firing incident late Thursday night in Badi Kopa village under the Naubatpur police station area in Patna district, over an IPL betting debt of over Rs 10 lakh.
The victim borrowed the money at high interest rates from some local youths, who fired on him to repay the money. Police have filed an FIR and launched raids to arrest the accused. A video of the firing incident also came to light after it went viral on social media.
Raj Kishore Singh (64) and his 13-year-old nephew Ayush Kumar were injured by pellets and admitted to the hospital. Singh told the police that Shivam Kumar, Gopal ji, Chhoti alias Ashutosh, Aman Kumar, along with some others from the village, came to his house and opened fire.
“My 22-year-old son Gurudev Kumar, a BA student, was involved in IPL betting. He borrowed lakhs at high interest from local youths and accumulated a debt of over Rs 10 lakh. The lenders were allegedly pressuring him to repay. On Thursday night, the accused reached our house with weapons and started arguing over the money. When the family objected, they fired indiscriminately. Pellets from the firing hit me and Ayush.

Upon receiving the information, Naubatpur police personnel reached the scene and started an investigation.
Naubatpur additional SHO Indal Kumar Yadav said, “An FIR has been registered against four named and three unknown persons based on the written complaint. Police reached the spot after getting information and started an investigation. Police are also examining a viral video of the incident in which gunshots can be heard. Raids are on to arrest the accused.”
