Karnataka man detained at Mahabodhi temple released

Bishwanath Malappa, a Karnataka resident, was detained by Bodh Gaya police for allegedly smuggling a spy camera into the Mahabodhi temple. He claimed he inadvertently carried the camera and had no malicious intent. Police released him on personal surety after registering a non-cognizable case and verifying his background, as he was in Bodh Gaya for sightseeing with friends.

Gaya: The person detained by Bodh Gaya police on Sunday on the charge of smuggling a spy camera inside world-famous Mahabodhi temple was released on Monday on furnishing personal surety. He was identified as Bishwanath Malappa (30), a resident of Bijapur (Karnataka).During questioning, Bishwanath told the police that he inadvertently took the camera in the prohibited zone and did not have any ill intention.According to SHO, Bodh Gaya, Manoj Kumar Singh, a non-cognizable case was registered against him and he was granted bail by the police on furnishing personal surety.The Karnataka native, along with his two friends, was in Bodh Gaya for sightseeing. Before releasing him on bail, the police verified his antecedents.
