Heroin worth Rs 3 crore seized, five arrested in Buxar

Buxar: In a crackdown on drug trafficking, Buxar police conducted raids at three places on Sunday, resulting in the recovery of heroin valued at approximately Rs 3 crore in the international market. Five people were also arrested in connection with the case, police said.According to Dumraon SDPO Polast Kumar, the first raid was conducted at Dakshin Tola Nala under the Dumraon police station. As the police team arrived, several suspects attempted to flee. However, with reinforcements, Umesh Rai and his son Golu Rai were arrested. A subsequent search led to the recovery of 73 packets of heroin (5.5 grams) and Rs 8,500 in cash. During interrogation, the duo revealed they had sourced the drugs from Narayan Upadhyay, a resident of Ekauni.Acting on this lead, police raided Upadhyay’s residence. After a failed attempt to escape, Narayan and his wife Kanchan Devi were taken into custody. A thorough search of their home uncovered 2.256 kg of heroin, 108 grams of powder, 50 grams of heroin from a car, two electronic weighing scales, two knives, and other drug-related paraphernalia. The couple confessed to jointly running the illegal drug racket.In a third operation later that day, police intercepted a suspect near Kesath Canal Road based on a tip-off. Pintu Yadav, also known as Vivek Yadav, was found in possession of 229.1 grams of heroin, Rs 4.3 lakh in cash, and 100 rubber bands used for packaging narcotics. He admitted that the cash was proceeds from drug sales.
