Patna: One Aslam Ahmed, a resident of Hajipur’s Harman Colony (ward no. 20), was arrested for impersonating as an IPS officer, police said on Monday.
Following complaints of his fraudulent activities in Phulwarisharif police station area, Ahmed was arrested.
Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma and City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh, while addressing a press conference on Monday, said the accused had been active for over one month in the area. “He allegedly sent threat emails to officials involved in land measurement in his area. Police reports indicate that he intimated over seven people with such threats,” the SSP said.
The complaint, that led to his arrest, was filed by a person of Phulwarisharif police station area. Besides, there were several complaints against him.
“During the investigation, police recovered a high-end cellphone and a laptop, which were found to contain a fake email ID (adg.patna.gov@gmail.com) created to impersonate the additional director general (ADG) of police. The email account also carried the Bihar Police logo in its display picture.”
Singh said, “Aslam is accused of contacting govt employees, claiming to be ADG’s employee posted at the police headquarters.
He allegedly pressured the employees to comply with his demands, threatening action if they refused. He especially intimidated land surveyors (amins) to favour certain parties in land disputes, claiming he was acting on behalf of the ADG’s office. He also extorted money from some people,” the SP said.
He added: “The police are now interrogating Aslam to uncover details about his network and identify others who may be involved in the scam. They are also investigating how many people he deceived and the total amount of money he may have extorted through his fraudulent ways.”
