Boring Road crossing turns green hub with solar light, vertical garden

Patna: The busy Boring Road intersection has undergone a transformation, turning a congested crossing near the Shiva temple into a creative urban space. Spread over 3,500 sq ft, the revamped stretch blends sustainability, greenery and modern design under a CSR initiative executed by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (Buidco). At the centre of the makeover is a 15-foot solar-powered palm tree, sourced from Jaipur. Fitted with a 500-watt light, the structure illuminates the area at night, improving visibility and safety. Pathways around the site have been paved with durable limestone from Rajasthan, enhancing both aesthetics and pedestrian convenience.A key highlight is a 500 sq ft green wall developed along the rear side of the Shiva temple. The wall was first repaired and freshly painted before being converted into a vertical garden.BUIDCO managing director Animesh Kumar Parashar said the green wall now hosts around 2,500 plants, nurtured by an automated drip irrigation system that waters the entire plantation at the flick of a switch. “The project under CSR also includes a sitting area, green space and additional landscaping with real palm trees, hedges and flowering plants,” he said.
“The existing fountain has been replaced with a sleek new stainless-steel model brought from Delhi. Designed in an elegant cobra shape and solar-operated, it creates a captivating water display and has become a focal point of the circular paved space, bordered by low brick walls adorned with greenery. Both the palm tree light and the fountain are now fully operational,” the MD said.Additional features include facade lighting, a signboard displaying “Mera Shehar Meri Jawadehi,” and the relocation and refurbishment of a police booth to improve both traffic management and the overall look of the area.Earlier, similar amenities such as a deluxe toilet, water fountain and green installations were developed along the same stretch near Rajapur Pul by the Patna Municipal Corporation.
